Workshop at Velalar college - Erode

FSFTN conducted yet another workshop - This time in Velalar college Erode on 17th and 18th August 2010. More than 300 students from different colleges in Erode district attended the session. Thanks to the great work by the organizing committee and college staff.

Students were given introduction to Free software philosophy on the first day by Praveen and Sibi. This was followed by session on installation aswell as basics of GNU/Linux file system. FSFTN arranged a session on MySQL after this. All sessions generated great interest among the student community. Enthusiasm shown by college staffs and students in asking questions motivated the crew.

Second day started with a very informative session on Python by Senthil from Collabnet. Students as well as Senthil spent 3 hours together interacting on usage of Python. Afternoon saw a very interesting session By Arun Thangamani
on Tamil Computing. This was one of the session which highlighted the possibilities of FOSS in localisation. FSFTN understands the need to generate more content in local language to make computing accessible tocommon man.

FSFTN formed a co-ordination committee for Erode region chaired by Sibi Raj from Coimbatore. Mohan, Moharaj, Akkash & Robinipriya.

All the participants were given a CD containing Ubuntu 10.04 as well. Thanks to all who participated in the event and to all the volunteers who made the event a great success.
